Welcome back! Today, we were asked to watch and rate a short film using a rubric provided by our teacher. I used a short movie I found on YouTube named "ignore it."   For the first criteria, I rate it a 20. I enjoyed the story; it held my attention through the whole thing and had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. For the second criteria I rate it a 15. I think the camera work and editing are good. There isn't really anything special within the editing or camera work. I did think the ending scene where the child sees the women within his sisters glasses was very well done, but aside from that it was good.  For the third criteria I give it a 10. The dialogue was not enhancing to the story and only at the beginning explained what was about to happen. Other wise it was just to fill the silence. There was little to no background noise/music which I think was a choice by the creators to add to the overall vibe of the movie. But I believe the movie cou...

Case Study Mis-en-scene

Hello! Welcome back to another blog! This week, we were asked to choose a scene from a movie and analyze its mise-en-scène. I decided on a scene from one of my favorite horror movies, Pearl. Here is my take on it! Hope you enjoy!  https://youtu.be/DmbWQJpFDHY?si=xfOcdNZVR1MpfGaG   (start at 48 seconds)      In this scene, we open with our main character, Pearl, auditioning for a dance group. After giving it her all, she has a big smile on her face, unfortunately, she is rejected. This takes place in a church with a stage. The judges are seated directly in front of the stage to have a good view of the dancer. The stage is large and separates the dancer from the judges, leaving them looking alone and vulnerable. The lighting for the judges is lowkey, but when the camera is on Pearl, the lighting is chiaroscuro. This foreshadows how the darkness behind her will consume her. Our main character is wearing a bright red dress. The stark contrast between the ...

Mood Boards

Hi! Welcome back to my blog! This week, we were asked to create mood boards for different sets. Here is what I created. Hope you like it!   Here is my haunted house mood board. My choices are dark and spooky. Most of the colors used are black and various shades of gray. I made these choices to show the dark vibe of the haunted house and evoke a sense of mystery and fear in the one who views it. I want the audience to make assumptions that something bad is about to happen and fear what it is. I would also like for them to fear the characters or what is about to happen to other characters, like we do in horror movies.  In this board, I tried to represent a basic college dorm. My choices are bright and cheerful to represent the comfort you can feel when you make it your own. I chose McKenna Grace as the actor because she is the right age to represent college life. The colors and lighting are bright to show the new beginning that college is and the bright opportunities that ...
